WEEK 2 BLOG
The JSU field trip was beyond informative. When we first arrived , the greeted us with the upmost respect . The speaker taught us about how people of color are not usually found in the field of meteorologists majors . When the students spoke with me, the told me how hard the major was but how even harder it was for you not to pass the class because of the resources that you’re surrounded by. They’re is no more than 8 people in the class room so you won’t have trouble feeling comfortable . It’s basically like a family . If you stick with the major, JSU will help you write recommendations to get you internships. I feel like that’s dope because most colleges don’t even care about you enough to do that. Overall I enjoyed the trip and I hope to go on more.
The Feminist Climate Justice article basically talks about the adversity that females have to go through when fighting against climate change. From being young, black, and a women, you really don't get the respect you deserve when you are in a room full of white men. Nouhad Awwad was a women who experienced this daily. Often discouraged, she used it as motivation to keep pushing towards her goal in fighting against climate change. In "From Banks to Tanks" the authors focuses on the Extractive Economy and Regenerative Economy. The Extractive Economy mainly focuses money which typically supports climate change. On the other hand , the Regenerative Economy focused on the well being of the enviornment , which typically supports recycling.
I am overall impressed with the optimism of Nouhad, I feel as though I am optimistic as well. Being discriminated against is not the most pleasant feeling , but she was determined and let nothing stop her. Hopefully more young girls will hear her story and become inspired by her words. On the other hand, I am not too fond of the Extractive Economy because the worlds is washing away as we know it. I understand that driving cars is easier than riding a bike and using a washing machine is easier than using a clothes line , but the Regenerative Economy is more useful and beneficial for the future generations .
