Climate Change and Migation

The videos "Climate change will push millionsfrom their homes.Where will they go?", "Meet America's First Climate Change Refugees", and "Climate Refugees: nation under threat" discuse the affects of climate change on migration paterns and the issues surrounding climate refugees. Etreme natural disasters have caused millions of people to become displaced. Imediate changes and slower moving changes, such as the rising sealevels in coastal communities have caused people to migrate. Developing countries dealing with climate change related disasters have a more difficult time than wealthy countries like the United States, who have reasources to deal with the effects of climate change. However, climate change has begun to cause Americans to migrate too. Coastal places such as New Orleans, Miami, and Los Angeles have experienced a gradual but extreme rise in sea level, resulting ipeople being forced to leave their homes. The signs are there and affecting American citizens, but people are still indenial and polotical leaders stilll refuse to adress it.

These videos give great insight on how close the disasters caused by climate change are to home. People often disregard or ignore issues that are not directly affecting them. Disasters that are slow moving directly affect people’s lives, but it does not cross their mind until things get extreme. For instance, the people living in Miami are experiencing a rise in  sea levels, but there are still people who deny that it will affect them. The rise in sea level will be difficult to ignore once hoses are submerged in water, only so many measures can be made to prevent climate change induced  disasters.
